Alien AI Madonna is a large composition of a true 12K (114 MP) size and the next image in the HyperPixel format to be released on ArtStation. Qualified as a HyperPixel, the image has an ultra high resolution while featuring beautiful fine detail as a result of progressive upscaling, enhancement and meticulous manual inpainting using state of the art tools of the Stable Diffusion technology. The product images include a ‘pixel morsel’, stylishly cut out fragment of the master image meant to show the texture and intricate detail of this creation at the 1:1 scale.

This artwork depicts a scene rendered in sepia monochrome featuring a youthful mother with an infant sleeping in her arms; the mother appears to be dozing too. She and her child are both clothed and tied together in mysterious, cobweb-like strands while being embedded in a large intricate cocoon composed of similar strands through which ovoid-shaped biological objects, not unlike eggs of some gigantic alien spider, are showing. Upon a closer look, the strands seem to be woven of some cryptical symbols, perhaps letters of an alien alphabet or digital code. The overall character of the scene is serene but somber, amplified by the style it is executed in, which is reminiscent of paintings by Leonardo da Vinci.

• what it is for

The main image does not have any other utility than to be enjoyed as a modern digital art piece. It is not intended to be used as a screen wallpaper (although you could use it that way if you like), or a reference, or an illustration. It is to be used more or less like large paintings of old masters were used: to be viewed at a distance, then studied up close in detail, marveling at the beauty of the fine detail and the brushstrokes - only the canvas is now your gorgeous LED screen, with brushstrokes composed of self-illuminating pixel patterns. Such is the unique richness of detail in this HyperPixel creation that, each time you pan or zoom somewhere in the image, you may discover something new, glimpse a nuance not seen before. With the size this large, and detail this dense, this image is an invitation to an endless visual discovery. 

• inspiration source and brief history

This artwork is one of the two central pieces of the image series titled A newborn in the care of an alien. It’s the result of my effort in exploring the theme of the impact of technological progress on humanity. (‘Alien’ in the series is often used as a metaphor for the fast developing AI technology.) The original version of this piece came out in a style reminiscent of Leonardo da Vinci which I thought was fitting for a scene with such a timeless subject. Based, like all other images in the series, on a 1K resolution picture generated back in September 2023, it has subsequently undergone multiple upscaling, enhancement and painstaking manual inpainting stages to acquire the present 10K resolution, while keeping (or rather, intelligently adding at every step) the fine detail.

• the tools used

The presented artwork is a result of 2 year-spanning multi-stage development done using a range of state of the art AI-imaging platforms and tools, including but not limited to: ClipDrop (the original AI image generator), Leonardo.ai (with the AbsoluteReality and albedobaseXL models) and its Canvas editor, krea.ai’s Enhancer, Krita, an advanced digital art creation and image editing software, and its Krita AI Diffusion Hires extension.
