The alien artefact is a large composition of a true 12K (110 MP) size and the next image in the HyperPixel format to be released on ArtStation. Qualified as a HyperPixel, the image has an ultra high resolution while featuring beautiful fine detail as a result of progressive upscaling, enhancement and meticulous manual inpainting using state of the art tools of the Stable Diffusion technology. The product images include 3 ‘pixel morsels’, stylishly cut out fragments of the master image meant to show the texture and intricate detail of this creation at the 1:1 scale.

• description

This artwork presents a dramatic nighttime view on an irregularly-shaped extraterrestrial object embedded in the surface of a faraway planet, possibly crashed into it centuries, or even longer ago. The artefact appears to be used now as a site for study of a mysterious civilisation that had sent this object into space, attracting various neighbouring galactic cultures, as indicated by school excursion groups consisting of reptiles, octopuses and human children that wander around the artefact’s top or play inside its compartments. The surrounding space remains a dangerous area though, judging by the meteorites and laser beams shooting through the near-black skies over the artefact. Mysterious statues of strange creatures perched on the rocky slopes around it, possibly ancient alien heroes, can be also discerned in the surrounding dark expanses.

• what it is for

The main image does not have any other utility than to be enjoyed as a modern digital art piece. It is not intended to be used as a screen wallpaper (although you could use it that way if you like), or a reference, or an illustration. It is to be used more or less like large paintings of old masters were used: to be viewed at a distance, then studied up close in detail, marveling at the beauty of the fine detail and the brushstrokes - only the canvas is now your gorgeous LED screen, with brushstrokes composed of self-illuminating pixel patterns. Such is the unique richness of detail in this HyperPixel creation that, each time you pan or zoom somewhere in the image, you may discover something new, glimpse a nuance not seen before. With the size this large, and detail this dense, this image is an invitation to an endless visual discovery. 

• inspiration source and brief history

This artwork, executed in the novel CanvasInfusion style, is one of the two central pieces of the fractal geometry-inspired image series titled Fractal cameos. Images in this series are the result of my creative effort, using AI-imaging tools of the Stable Diffusion technology, in exploring the theme of technological impact on progress of humanity, with a hint of dystopian undercurrent in a number of the artworks. The artistic content of the set draws on my longtime fascination with making fractal images, something that I have been busy with since the mid 1990s: a few of those images served as the structural basis for these new creations.

• the tools used

The presented artwork is a result of 2 year-spanning multi-stage development done using a range of state of the art AI-imaging platforms and tools, including but not limited to: Prompt Hunt (the original AI image generator), Leonardo.ai and its Universal Upscaler, Topaz Labs’ Generative Upscale, Forge WebUI (with the dynavisionXL model), Krita, an advanced digital art creation and image editing software, and its Krita AI Diffusion Hires extension.
